A short post today, as we are tres fatique!
With a long day in Versailles, we saw the Chateau, the gardens, the English gardens of Marie Antoinette, and la ferme.
The chateau was huge with a below average audio tour. The rooms were incredibly beautiful with lots of faux marble, real marble, painted chairs, and portraits (where the men and women looked very similar).
The gardens were the highlight of the day and I hope to go back and do a full run around later next week. We loved the symmetry, the huge walls of trees forming straight and narrow paths, the fountains that were unfortuantely not running, but majestic nonetheless. It is huge!! Much bigger than Central Park...and we think it is larger than the Summer Palace in China (anyone?), which we have also seen.
The most peculiar part of the journey was Marie Antoinette's little English village that she created, which included thatched roofs and sheep, as well as an absurd amount of fish in a small pond, two big bulls, five donkies, many goats (and even some billie goats?).
Our legs are seriously exhausted after a lot of walking! We treated ourselves to a take-out dinner on the Seine with a bottle of wine and inspected the Bateaux Mouches and other Seine Cruisers, some of which are offensive in the way that they create a "City of Light" all by themselves.
